I don't know if this is possible, but I'd like to use the basic text filter on an adjustment layer to display the name of the front-most video layer under itself.

For example, at the frame shown in the picture, the text would read "Approval Particular.mov" If it were possible to have it ignore the extension, that would be even better, but it's not necessary.

You can't control the text of the Basic Text effect with an expression but you can use a text layer. This should useful:

Worked like a charm!

Edit: Got it to function like an adjustment layer by tweaking the loop.
