simple text expression?

I would like the text typed in one text layer to appear in another text layer of a different comp.

so far I have been able to pick whip the source text of the target layer from the other comp and I get this code:

comp("title 1").layer("line 1").text.sourceText

but this is not enough. do I need more code? is this even possible?

I'm in AE7 and know very little about expressions or Java.

comp("title 1").layer("line 1").text.sourceText works for me. What do you mean by "this is not enough"? What result are you seeing?

Started over with blank layers and it works just fine.
